Save the turtles

Addressed to: Ministry of Environment of the Bolivian Government

Because in the city of Riberalta, Province Vaca Diez of the Department of Beni, people have the atrocious habit of consuming turtle meat, whether these are aquatic or terrestrial, as they take the eggs and market them, despite a prohibition.

Turtle eggs became a forbidden food because the capture of the turtle and its eggs is prohibited by Law. In the dry season, the petas and tatarugas, both turtles of water, spawn in the sand. This situation is well taken advantage of by community and fishermen who locate the nests to remove the eggs that are consumed boiled or in tortilla.

Until a little more than a decade ago the sale of eggs was practically free. Now, although the control is strict, people are given ways to market them, despite the surveillance in the locks of the roads.

We need the Biodiversity authorities to do everything possible to fight against turtle and turtle eggs, to respect the Law, to respect animals, to respect the environment.
