Addressed to: Honorable Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay and 2 more

The Metropolitan Guasu Park is located in the Central Department of Paraguay, bordering the cities of Asunción and Luque; It integrates several leisure options in 125 hectares, where species of fauna and flora coexist in their natural habitat.

The place itself is characterized as an area of the Chaco because there are animals and trees that are typical of that region, such as: teju guasu, apere'a, aguara'i, aguarapope, jagua rundi, wildcat, capybaras, yacaré and lobope , Curiyú, yellow python, jarara, jandudire'i, karáu, white heron, patillos, aguape raso, teteu, piririta, year and more, according to a survey of the Moisés Bertoni Foundation (2007).

In its flora are: tajy, yvyra pyta, algarrobo, samu'u, lapacho colorado, lapacho amarillo, yvyraro, more than 17,000 native trees in the 7, 5 km road. It also contains the Paseo de los Frutales, in 900 meters of road, more than 1000 seedlings of: guayabo (traditional and grafted), mango (traditional and grafted), passion fruit, avocado, cherimoya, loquat, inga'i.

Today, some 34 hectares of these green areas of Metropolitan Guasu Park will be devastated for the construction of two huge flood mitigation basins. The SEAM allowed it and the work was started, without taking into account the environmental catastrophe they are committing to destroy this small lung of the city with so much biodiversity, without taking into account other alternatives for the construction of storm drains.

We hereby request the following:

- The immediate cessation of the works being carried out in the Guasu Metropolitan Park.

- Survey of RIMA (Environmental Impact Report) of Public knowledge.

- Protected Wild Area Declaration of Metropolitan Guasu Park.
