In an entirely altruistic way, Dr. Cavadas decided to create the foundation currently known as the "Pedro Cavadas Foundation".
The surgeon responded to the usual patterns in the profession, but as a result of the death of one of his brothers, in a car accident in 2001, he took a radical turn in his lifestyle by changing his clothing and some aspects of his work.
The Pedro Cavadas Foundation was founded in 2003 with the aim of providing modern reconstructive surgery to disadvantaged patients in African countries.
He has organized humanitarian surgical campaigns in Kenya until the end of 2013, and has since moved his activity to Tanzania for security reasons.
In the campaigns patients of reconstructive problems are operated completely free of charge, and especially complex cases are transferred to Spain to be operated under optimal conditions.
Thanks to their actions they have been able to save and improve the lives of many people, since they perform more than 1800 interventions a year.
We request that the Pedro Cavadas Foundation be awarded the Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation.
