During my visit to Petra, in the last month of October, I had to witness a lot of animal abuse. I saw animals exposed to the sun for long hours, without water or food. I saw a horse that while carrying a tourist was with half a tongue outside, its owner told me that this was normal. I saw a donkey eating wooden tables from some seats, because they had not been fed. I saw many animals with their legs injured, bleeding, with improvised patches covering wounds. I saw donkeys with their ears cut off. I saw a horse that his march was difficult because the brake that was in his mouth hurt him. I saw how their owners beat them with whips to climb those difficult slopes, loaded with kilos of obese tourists, the animals could not anymore and their owners whipped them without mercy.
I ask the Jordanian authorities to act immediately, it is a beautiful country and one gets a very bad impression because of all the animal abuse that we can see. Hopefully, the government will act quickly to control the owners of the animals and to end animal abuse in Petra.
