More than twenty carriage horses in Cartagena, one of the most sought after tourist attractions in the city, present physical affectations such as skin lacerations, poor fittings and malnutrition. Some horses have died from mistreatment, lack of interest from their "owners" force them to work long hours.
In addition to that a new case of animal abuse was reported through social networks in Cartagena, on Santander Avenue, near the Marina Park, a horse collapsed with signs of dehydration and hypocalcemia that generated weakness.
With the arrival of the holiday season, animal abuse returns for the carriage horses of the Historic Center of Cartagena.
Animals are subjected to long hours of work and dragging overweight floats, a practice that has generated different debates about the need to keep them in force as part of the tourist offer.
Even recently, around 40 horses were found mistreated and in terrible conditions, during the raid, affectations, lacerations, bad fittings, lack of feeding and in general bad care in the equines were verified, so six horses were removed from the place preventively. and a donkey, animals that were put at the disposal and protection of the District Secretary of Government of Cartagena of the Municipal Unit of Agricultural Technical Assistance -UMATA-.
