A rhinoceros is killed every six hours by poachers. Murder and corruption are literally cleansing these majestic animals from the face of the earth. We must save these rhinoceroses in danger.
The rhino poaching has increased in recent years and is being driven by the demand for horns in Asian countries, particularly Vietnam.
Horns are used in traditional Chinese medicine, but increasingly they are also used as a status symbol to show someone's success and wealth.
As South Africa is home to most of the rhinos in the world, it is being heavily attacked by poachers. However, poaching is now a threat in all states in the rhinoceros area and rural programs are contemplating heavy investments to tackle poaching.
The shortage of rhinos today and the corresponding intermittent availability of horns only drives an increase in the prices of these, in addition to a consequent increase in the pressure on declining rhino populations.
