A shelter for dangerous dogs breeds

Addressed to: Municipality of Copacabana

Following the entry into force of the new Police Code, rescuers ensure that irresponsible owners of these animals abandon them. In Copacabana, Antioquia, do not allocate resources to help animals in a state of abandonment or mistreatment, the shelter only receives animals of race that are not dangerous aside from the Pitbull, Rottweiler and BullTerrier breeds.

The new Police Code came into effect a few days ago and presents a space for dogs of potentially dangerous breeds and a series of requirements for their holders, who must pay a fine of up to eight legal minimum daily legal fees to breach it.

In another section of the Code, one of the requirements is that the owners of these animals must have a civil liability policy, who does not have a fine of 32 legal minimum daily wage. The problem is that such a policy is not yet available in the country.

For all these reasons is that their owners have begun to abandon them and every day we see more potentially dangerous dogs roaming the streets.

We do not know what treatment they received before they were abandoned in the streets, endangering the lives of people and other animals, so we demand the Mayor of Copacabana, Antioquia, to allocate resources to offer a site where they can house and treat this type of race.
