It is necessary in our country due to excessive animal abuse and it's time to have a voice for them and defend them!
Law 18298, will penalize and punish animal abuse as a crime which opens the possibility of bringing the perpetrators to the courts.
The text provides clarification to the definition of crimes that include animal fighting, poisoning, death of animals, abuse, mutilation, torture, among others, said the deputy Ligia Fallas.
Penalties range from 6 months to 3 years imprisonment in case of death of the animal for various reasons, from 6 months to 2 years imprisonment in cases of cruelty and 25 to 50 day fines for abuse.
Deputy Juan Marin Quiros said that the text is the result of negotiations to achieve consensus of the sectors involved as productive, public and private animal shows, because these activities are already regulated by the Senasa, by the Ministry of Health and by the Law of animal shows, which include bullfights and bull riding in Guanacaste.
